A 16-year-old Oroville juvenile appeared in the Butte County Juvenile Court today on charges related to the September 12, 2026, shooting on V-6 Road in Oroville. The juvenile male, along with four others, drove away from a party in the area after several in his group briefly attended.
As the group drove past the party home, the 16-year-old fired multiple shots at individuals standing outside, including a 15-year-old who sustained major injuries. The victim is currently receiving treatment at an out-of-county hospital for those injuries.
The Butte County Sheriff’s deputies later located the vehicle and the group involved. Two adults have been charged with contributing to the delinquency of minors, and two additional juveniles are being handled by the Butte County Probation Department regarding their involvement in the matter.
Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said the 16-year-old has been charged with Discharging a Firearm from a Vehicle at a Person Resulting in Great Bodily Injury. As an adult, these charges carry a maximum punishment of 32 years to life. Because the alleged shooter is 16, they will face a maximum of 2-4 years in juvenile hall.
The 16-year-old has an extensive juvenile history, including eleven pending petitions for law violations in Butte County Juvenile Court. At the time of this event, the juvenile was wearing a GPS monitor and was being supervised by the Butte County Probation Department.
The 16-year-old is currently being housed in the juvenile hall with his next court hearing on September 23, 2026.
