Illegal Possession of Firearm Arrest

Around 3:15am on Saturday August 29, 2026, the Chico Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting someone inside of a residence in the 1200 block of Cedar St. making threats to shoot the occupants and refusing to leave.
The reporting party described the suspects as two Hispanic males and one Hispanic female. Officers were dispatched to the area and located a group matching the description walking nearby.
After contacting the three individuals, Officers observed one of the men had discarded a black crossbody bag he’d been wearing upon initial observation. A search of the area revealed a black leather bag with a firearm inside approximately 100 yards from where the group was stopped. Once the subject the bag belonged to was identified, Officers learned he had prior felony convictions as a juvenile and was prohibited from possessing a firearm.
19-year-old Jose Alvarez of Orland was taken into custody and arrested for violations of:

30305(A)(1) PC: Prohibited person in possession of ammunition (F)
32310(A) PC: Manufacture large capacity magazine (F)
