10.01.2026 "Media Release" - Chico Police Department

Over the course of the past week, Chico Police Officers have responded to multiple calls for service involving the same group of juvenile suspects- two 16-year-old and one 14-year-old males. During each of these incidents, violent and/or egregious crimes were in progress.

09/24/26- Officers responded to a report of an assault with an axe at Children’s Park shortly after 8pm. The victim and suspects fled the scene prior to their arrival, but three juvenile males (known from previous law enforcement contacts) were detained nearby. During the course of their investigation, Officers with the Chico State Police Department recovered the axe, and video surveillance of the attack, which verified the juveniles’ involvement.

09/29/26- Around 2:45pm, Officers were dispatched to the area of Fairview High School, where staff reported a group of known juveniles, one of whom was wielding an axe, chased another juvenile onto campus. Despite extensive search efforts of the surrounding area, the juveniles were not located at that time.

09/29/26- Just before midnight, a vehicle was reported stolen from Amanda Way. The vehicle’s owner was able to track the car’s location and provide updates to dispatchers. Officers were led on a 3-mile pursuit before terminating due to public safety concerns. During the pursuit, the driver of the stolen vehicle failed to yield for a stop sign a total of 3 times, failed to yield for a stop light once, and failed to yield at a roundabout once. A short time later, Officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex and were able to detain two juveniles nearby. Ultimately a third juvenile was located and arrested.

The following charges related to each of these incidents will be forwarded to Butte County Probation for review. Based on their recommendation, charges may be filed with the Butte County District Attorney’s Office.
